Deck, engine, electrical, fishing and processing roles lead to different careers. Think about the work you enjoy and the experience you can document. Progress is not always a change of rank: a new vessel type or a more suitable rotation can also be the right next step.
Make the gap visible
Compare your current qualifications with the requirements of your target position. Separate training needs from experience requirements. Before paying for a course, confirm that the provider and qualification are accepted for the intended route.
Keep your profile current
After each contract, update your vessel list, responsibilities, dates and certificates. Explain your availability and preferred sectors. Use the recruitment conversation to discuss realistic next steps, not a guaranteed promotion or joining date.
