An international framework
STCW sets international minimum standards for seafarer training, certification and watchkeeping. It is not a single course or a universal permission to work on every vessel. The required documents depend on your duties and the applicable administration.

Check your Certificate of Competency where applicable, safety training, security training, medical fitness and any specialist endorsements. Some competencies require refresher training or evidence of continued competence. Confirm recognition, expiry and refresher requirements with your administration and approved training provider.
Fishing vessels need a separate check
Fishing-vessel personnel may fall under a different certification regime, including STCW-F and national rules. Ask for the exact flag-state and role requirements. A generic document checklist is only a starting point, not confirmation of eligibility.
